Things I forget about teaching children’s art classes: that I get really, really, really anxious in the final minutes before a session starts. That it always turns out to be perfectly okay. That, actually, I like it, A LOT. That kids really do say the darndest things, and also have a real knack for Words of Affirmation. Which kind of slays me.
Wow, Elizabeth! Your pond is so beautiful! Elizabeth, you are really really good at making stems.
Mom! Elizabeth taught us about Monet today!
We managed to get through two hours of waterlilies today with only one bloody nose and twenty minutes overtime, after which I completely crashed on the couch, unconscious to the world. Seriously. I don’t know how mothers do it.
Tomorrow it’s a little color theory and a lot of Matisse.
But Elizabeth, that looks really, really hard.
It looks that way, doesn’t it? But I’ll make it easy.
That’s true. You always do.
